Atlassian Certifications for Jira, Confluence, and Cloud Administration
Atlassian certification now spans both associate-level credentials for everyday product users and professional credentials for administrators who configure and govern Atlassian Cloud environments. The current learning catalog includes Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, cloud administration, and newer product capabilities, so candidates should select by the work they perform rather than by an old exam code.
The program is also in an active transition. Atlassian announced in September 2026 that Managing Jira Projects for Cloud (ACP-620) will retire in early January 2027 and that key content will be merged into Jira Administration for Cloud (ACP-120). Managing Jira Service Projects for Cloud (ACP-420) is not part of that retirement.
This timing matters because older Atlassian certification roadmaps contain data-center and server exams that can no longer be renewed. Current candidates should verify whether a study reference represents an active cloud certification, a credential in transition, or a retired product-generation exam.
Atlassian Certified Associate credentials validate everyday product skills
Associate certifications are designed for professionals who use Atlassian apps in their jobs and want to demonstrate practical product knowledge without the deeper administrative scope expected of professional credentials. Current examples include Jira Essentials, Confluence Essentials, and service-management fundamentals.
Jira Essentials validates the ability to work with key Jira concepts such as work items, spaces, boards, and collaborative workflows. Confluence Essentials focuses on creating, organizing, and collaborating on content. These exams are most useful when candidates already perform the product tasks and want a structured credential around them.
Preparation should be hands-on. A user should be able to create and organize work, navigate permissions that affect everyday collaboration, use boards or content structures correctly, and understand how the product supports the team’s process.
Jira Administration for Cloud is the durable administrator path
Atlassian’s Jira Administration for Cloud certification is a current professional credential for people who configure and manage Jira Cloud to support different teams. The role goes beyond using Jira; administrators are responsible for structure, access, configuration, workflows, schemes, fields, automation, and ongoing governance.
Atlassian has announced that this credential will absorb important content from ACP-620 when Managing Jira Projects for Cloud retires in January 2027. Candidates planning beyond that transition should build preparation around the current Jira Administration path rather than relying on a roadmap that assumes ACP-620 remains a permanent separate credential.
Administrators should practice in a safe cloud environment. Configuration knowledge becomes durable when the candidate sees how a workflow, field, permission, notification, or automation change affects real users and projects.
Managing Jira Service Projects for Cloud remains a current professional certification
The Managing Jira Service Projects for Cloud (ACP-420) credential remains active. Atlassian has stated that the January 2027 Jira-admin consolidation does not retire this certification.
The credential focuses on configuring company-managed service projects for IT service management and enterprise service-management use cases. Areas include project settings, access, request and issue behavior, notifications, knowledge management, reporting, portal configuration, automation, and integrations.
Candidates should understand the service workflow from requester to resolution. A portal form, request type, workflow, SLA, automation rule, notification, and knowledge article all affect the customer and agent experience; configuring one part without understanding the full flow can create confusion.
ACP-620 is current in 2026 but has a known retirement date
The Managing Jira Projects for Cloud (ACP-620) certification is still available in late 2026, but Atlassian has announced that it will be retired in early January 2027. Important content from the exam will be incorporated into an updated Jira Administration for Cloud credential.
This is a transitional rather than purely current-or-retired situation. A candidate already scheduled to test before retirement may still have a valid reason to complete ACP-620. Someone beginning a long study plan should compare the remaining testing window with the value of preparing directly for the post-transition Jira Administration exam.
Editorially, the retirement date should always accompany the link. Presenting ACP-620 as a stable long-term credential would be misleading even though it remains available today.
Older ACP-100 and ACP-600 pages belong to retired data-center generations
Historical exam material includes retired Atlassian exams such as ACP-100 Jira Administration for Data Center and ACP-600 Jira Project Administration for Data Center and Server. Atlassian lists these among retired certifications that can no longer be renewed.
Those pages can still be useful for historical context, especially in organizations that continue to operate older deployments, but they should not be presented as current certification targets. Product administration knowledge may transfer, while the credential status and cloud feature set do not.
Candidates working in migration projects can use the old material to understand legacy configuration patterns, then verify how the same requirement is implemented in current Atlassian Cloud.
Confluence certification has moved toward cloud and essentials credentials
Atlassian currently offers Confluence Essentials for users and preparation resources for Confluence Administration for Cloud. This is different from older server/data-center certification naming that may still appear in historical learning records.
Confluence administrators need to think about spaces, permissions, templates, lifecycle, governance, discovery, and the information architecture that keeps collaboration useful at scale. A well-configured site should make it easier to find current information and harder to accidentally expose content to the wrong audience.
Candidates should use the current Atlassian learning catalog because Confluence product capabilities, permissions, administration models, and credential names have changed over time.
Cloud Organization Admin covers governance above individual products
Atlassian Cloud Organization Admin is designed for professionals who manage users, groups, administrative roles, organizations, sites, and cross-product cloud settings. This role sits above day-to-day project configuration because it affects how access and governance operate across the Atlassian environment.
Organization administrators need to understand identity, user lifecycle, group strategy, administrative delegation, security settings, domain and organization management, and the effect of changes across products.
Preparation should include governance scenarios. A technically possible permission change is not automatically the right enterprise decision when it increases administrative risk or makes access harder to audit.
Atlassian certification is strongest when practice mirrors administration
Reading documentation is necessary but insufficient for administrator exams. Candidates should create test configurations, observe how settings interact, intentionally create problems, and learn how to recover without disrupting unrelated teams.
For Jira, that can include workflow, field, screen, permission, notification, and automation changes. For service management, candidates should test request types, queues, SLAs, knowledge, portal behavior, and customer access. For Confluence, they should work through space structures, permissions, content organization, and governance.
This practical approach also makes the credential more useful after the exam. Administrators are judged by the reliability and usability of the environment they maintain, not by their ability to recite product definitions.
Renewal and retirement information should be checked before scheduling
Atlassian’s certification catalog changes as cloud products evolve and data-center or server generations retire. The organization also operates an active renewal program for current certifications, while retired credentials can lose renewal eligibility.
Candidates should therefore check three things before committing to a study plan: whether the credential is active, whether a retirement or replacement has been announced, and what renewal path applies after passing.
This is particularly important in late 2026 because ACP-620 has a scheduled retirement while ACP-120 is being updated. A preparation resource can be technically accurate and still lead to a credential that is about to close.
Everyday Jira or Confluence users can begin with associate-level credentials. Project and service administrators can pursue the professional certifications that match the configuration work they own. Organization administrators should choose the cross-product cloud governance path, while specialists can add product credentials as responsibilities expand.
The strongest path is not the one with the most badges. It is the sequence that mirrors increasing authority: use the product well, configure a team environment responsibly, administer the service or product at scale, and then govern the broader cloud organization where appropriate.
Atlassian certification remains useful when candidates keep product generation and retirement dates in view. Current cloud practice should control preparation, while retired ACP pages are best used only to understand legacy environments and credential history.
Candidates should also understand the difference between a technically valid configuration and a governable one. Jira and Confluence can often be customized in many ways, but excessive variation across teams increases support cost, complicates reporting, and makes administration harder to audit. Professional-level administrators need to balance local flexibility with organization-wide standards.
Automation deserves the same discipline. A rule that saves manual work can also create loops, unexpected transitions, notification noise, or changes across many work items. Candidates should test automation with clear scope, logging, ownership, and rollback expectations rather than assuming that no-code configuration is low risk.
Administrators should also build a habit of testing changes with representative users before broad rollout. A permission model that works for an administrator account can fail for an ordinary contributor, customer, or service agent. Testing with realistic roles exposes hidden assumptions about access and workflow.
Documentation and ownership become especially important as an Atlassian environment grows. Every major automation, custom workflow, permission scheme, or integration should have a clear purpose and owner. Certification knowledge becomes more valuable when candidates can operate the platform as a maintainable service rather than a collection of clever configurations.
