What changed during the 2021–2022 refresh

Network+ has long provided a foundation in addressing, routing, switching, network operations and troubleshooting. In 2021, the N10-008 exam represented the then-current evolution of those fundamentals, with attention to practical security and emerging connectivity scenarios. A dated announcement can explain why study materials of that period emphasize particular networking features, but it does not establish the objectives candidates should use now. Apply the current issuer blueprint to labs that diagnose DNS failures, route selection, wireless connectivity and access restrictions.

Cloud+ updates in 2021 similarly reflected the demand for administrators who could operate resilient, secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure. The archived CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-003 page identifies an exam version from that period. Treat that code as historical context, not a live appointment recommendation. The enduring knowledge is how shared responsibility, identity permissions, resource availability, change control and incident evidence affect operational cloud decisions.

The Server+ SK0-005 version introduced in 2021 reflected continued emphasis on server administration, hardware, virtualization, troubleshooting and operational practice. A useful exercise is to diagnose a simulated host failure from logs and observed service behavior, explain what should be recovered, and demonstrate that one restored service does not leave other hosts exposed. That task remains valuable even as exam codes change.

Security specialties: architecture and penetration testing

CompTIA’s advanced cybersecurity pathway was then called CASP+, and the CompTIA CASP+ CAS-004 exam marked a 2021 version in that program. Its significance was the move beyond individual controls into security architecture, enterprise risk and implementation trade-offs. CompTIA subsequently renamed the advanced CASP+ pathway SecurityX for its CAS-005 edition. The archived CAS-004 code must not be mistaken for that newer assessment. A lab performed without permission is not evidence of professional testing competence, regardless of the exam version used for study.

Data analysis became a separate credential pathway

CompTIA Data+ was introduced as a vendor-neutral way to assess the work behind collecting, cleaning, analysing and reporting business data. The historical DA0-001 identifier is useful when reading source material from 2022. It should not be mistaken for proof of the exam edition offered today. Learners comparing data credentials should instead ask whether the exam requires them to define a business question, detect bad input, choose appropriate transformations and explain conclusions to stakeholders.

A practical data exercise can begin with an anonymized sales dataset. Define the calculation first, inspect missing and duplicate records, document a consistent transformation and create a chart whose axes and filters support a specific decision. Re-run the result after changing one input or adding one late record. This measures analyst judgment more meaningfully than a claim that passing one exam guarantees a job title or salary.

Choose current objectives before buying training

The older exam codes in this article are retained as historical labels. Current exam schedules, retirement dates, content outlines and language availability are controlled by CompTIA and can change. Before paying for a course or exam appointment, verify the exact code on the issuer’s current certification page and compare the course’s objective edition and publication date with that listing. Different editions within the same credential family may test quite different scenarios.

Choose study activities that produce evidence: a small network you can troubleshoot, an identity permission you can demonstrate denying access, a cloud workload with a recovery runbook, a lawful penetration-test report or a clean data analysis with reproducible calculations. Those outcomes matter beyond any single exam code. The 2021–2022 releases described above remain a useful historical map, while the practical preparation decision must be based on the verified current issuer materials.
