PMI RMP – PMI CODE OF ETHICS

  1. INTRODUCTION

Hi and welcome to a short section where we are going to talk about the Project Management Institute Code of FX. As practitioners of Project Management, we are committed to doing what’s high and honorable. We set for ourselves high standards and we aspire to meet these standards in all aspects of our our lives at work, at home and in service to our profession as practitioners. Whenever I’m using the practitioners word in this section, it means Practitioners of Project Management profession. This Code of Effects and Professional Conduct describes the expectations that we have of ourselves and our fellow practitioners in the global Project Management community.

It articulates the ideals to which we aspire, as well as the behaviors that are mandatory in our professional and volunteer roles. The Code of Ethics and and Professional Conduct is divided into sections and continuing standards of conduct which are aligned with our four values that we have identified as most important to the Project Management community. So what are the four values we have? First of all, the responsibility we have the respect, fairness and honesty. I’m going to explain each of them briefly. Thank you so much. I will see you at the next lecture.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY

So the first value is the responsibility. Responsibility is our duty to take ownership for the decisions we make or fail to make, the actions we take or fail to take, and the consequences that result from our decisions and actions. As practitioners in the global project management community, we make decisions and take actions based on the best interests of society, public safety and the environment. We accept only those assignments that are consistent with our background, experience, skills and qualifications, and we fulfill the commitments that we undertake. We do what we say we will do when we make errors or omissions, we take ownership and make corrections promptly.

This is actually the core meaning of the responsibility. When you are managing projects and practical life, especially large scale projects, you will have few errors, you will make some errors. The responsibility, the real responsibility is that to take the ownership of these wrong errors or wrong decisions and make corrections promptly. We proclaim propriety or confidential information that has been entrusted to us and we uphold this code and hold each other accountable to it. These are the requirements you need to apply regarding the responsibility in our project management profession. Thank you so much. I will see you at the next lecture.

  1. RESPECT

The second value we have is the respect. Respect is our duty to show a high regard for ourselves, others and the resources entrusted to us. Resources entrusted to us may include people, money, reputation, the safety of others and natural or environmental resources. You need to respect all the project team members you are working with. An environment of respect engenders trust, confidence and performance excellence by fostering mutual cooperation and environment where diverse perspectives and views are encouraged and valued.

So, as practitioners to the global project management community, first of all we need to inform ourselves about the norms and customs of others and avoid engaging in behaviors they might consider disrespectful. We listen to others point of views, seeking to understand them. We approach directly those persons with whom we have a conflict or disagreement. We need to confront these people and we conduct ourselves in a professional manner even when it’s not reciprocated. This is all for the respect.

  1. FAIRNESS

The third value we have is the fairness. Fairness is our duty to make decisions and act impartially and objectively. Our conduct must be free from competing self interest, prejudice and favoritism. As practitioners in the global Project Management community, first of all, we demonstrate transparency in our decision making process. We constantly re examine our impartiality and objectivity, taking corrective action as appropriate. And when needed, we provide equal access to information to those who are authorized to have that information, especially while procuring long lead items for your project. And we make opportunities equally available to qualify candidates. Those are the requirements as practitioners and Project management community regarding the fairness of.

  1. HONESTY

The last value we have is the honesty. Honesty is our duty to understand that trust and act in a truthful manner both in our communications and in our conduct as practitioners in the global project management community. First of all, we earnestly seek to understand that trust. We are truthful in our communications and in our conduct and we provide provide accurate information in a timely manner.
